Our Wedding Speech (English Version)

 (Our Wedding Speech)

Good evening to all our friends, relatives and families. Thank you for attending our wedding tonight, we are honored and grateful for your well wishes on our marriage.

When we were planning for our wedding, I told Huimin that our speech tonight is very important. It’s not often that we have the opportunity to thank those who loves us and touched our lives. As our elders don’t understand English, we will be speaking mostly in Mandarin. But don’t worry, for those who are English friendly, I have uploaded our English speech online at www.weddingmusiccoffee.blogspot.com. You can visit the website now on your smartphone and follow our speech.

(The following will be in Mandarin)

I was telling the guests that our speech will be in Mandarin, because we knew Dad, Mum and many elder relatives do not understand English.  We have set up our speech in a website for our English speaking guests to follow.

Many of you have watched us grow up over the years; some of you were there for us when we needed guidance. For others, our friendships are something we have built up and treasure dearly. So today is a good opportunity to say our appreciation and also to let our parents know that while we are out of home, these are the people who took care of us. I will let my wife to start first.

(Huimin’s speech)

Thank you for gracing our happy occasion with your presence here today. It really means a lot to us to have so many family, friends and colleagues to celebrate our joy and give us your blessings. Thank you for coming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents’ upbringing

When I was young, Dad always up very early in the morning to work and raise our family. Despite exhausted after a long, hard day at work, Dad frequently brought us to nearby supermarket for a walk. Back then, NTUC was our favorite “shopping mall”. Dad is always been the first person I turn to for help solve household emergencies. Dad is a man of few words. He demonstrates his love and care for his 3 daughters through his actions.

In my eyes, Mum is a Superwoman. She can cook, tailor clothes, handle all house chores by herself and take good care of us. She always keeps our house clean and tidy. I often feel that Mum is too fast and I cannot keep up. Now, think of it, this is what she honed over the years. It is not easy to attend so many things at one time. I would like to thank both my Dad and Mum for all their merciful, selfless and love. Thanks them for everything they did for me throughout my life.

Thanks my eldest sister, Jamie and brother in law, Daniel for always taking care of me. Especially on last Fri when I suddenly fall sick, they immediately drove me to see doctor and prepare honey for the whole family.

Thanks my second sister, Huiyi for her companionship. She is my roommate for years. Although 1 year age difference, we are very unlike in our characters and living habits. She is quiet, I am chatty. She sleep early, I always sleep late. Despite all the differences, we get along very well.

Thanks to my adorable niece, Kailey for helping us in our first march-in. Hope we can plan for another family trip together.

Thanks to all the friends who contributed so much to our wedding especially my bridesmaids, Yoke Wen, Meiyun, Jasmine, Wei Suan, Wai Kuan and Celine, who have been a terrific help to me, not only today but throughout wedding preparation. You girls truly made our wedding well organized. We do not know how it would turn out without your help.

Today, I am very happy and touched that I met someone who cherishes me, someone who I can give my life to. He is responsible and caring. Through him, I learnt different philosophies of life. We will walk together, hand in hand towards our future. Thanks once again for blessing us.

(Jianfeng's speech)

Firstly, I want to thank our wedding helpers, Yoke Wen, Wai Kuan, Celine, Jasmine, Mei Yun, Wei Suan, Alan, Mun Loong, Kokwei and my two brothers Ming & Wei.  All thanks to their effort, today's wedding events are beautiful and smooth going. Please give them a good round of applause.

I joined the Boys Brigade in primary school, and it was a life changing decision. Thank you to my officers Sirs and Madams. Your teaching and guidance have shaped me in becoming a fine young man in Christ, and now I have carried on to impact the next generation of Boys. Thank you to my fellow officers who served along with me. We have contributed a lot of our time and effort for the Boys. It is not easy, but we want the Boys to be responsible, to be Sure and Stedfast. It was very fun serving with you all, especially with our own brand of sarcastic humour.

BB 17th company also gave me a band of brothers for life. Kokwei, Mun Loong, Jason and Ee Swee. This is a brotherhood that started many years ago. We went through many things together and being there for each other. I guess that what makes us so appreciative of this bond we have.

If BB has toughened me up, then AHSCDS brought out the soft side of me.  As actors, we have to look deep into the character’s emotions in order to act well. I used this skill to understand people better, creating good relationships with people I met. Thank you to my batch for sticking together for 16 years and running. We are growing in numbers, adding in our spouses and babies. To my other CDS friends, we have also established deep friendships with each other. Thank you for coming tonight.

AA friend, my crazy bunch of friends since secondary school. You never knew, but your craziness made me felt better when I was very down in 2005. With you guys, I can forget about all my worries. Thank you for being crazy with me. I’m serious haha…

I am also blessed to meet good people in army, DHL, GSCO. The common factor about us is that we are hardworking, yet fun loving as same time. Laughter is plenty, and it makes work easier. Even though we are not colleagues now, but friends are forever. And even when I was in Taiwan, I met good people, the Ye Family, We are honoured to have our friend from Taiwan. Yi Ting, welcome to Singapore.

To my relatives, you have watched me grow up. Try to recollect how I was when I was young. I am quiet and would sit in one corner and play, right?  I have grown up and now I am speaking non-stop haha.. Please welcome Huimin as part of our big family.

To Huimin’s parents, thank you for bringing up Huimin. She is smart, and understanding also. I promise that I will take good care of her.

To my sister, I’m glad you have excelled in studies. But don’t be too stress out in university. Just try your best and if anything, you can look for me

To my younger brothers, thank you for accompanying me at gatecrashing. We have not played together after we grew up, so this is really meaningful for me. Please continue to set regular family dinner and call me back.

To my elder brother, you look handsome tonight, I told you so. You’re the first one to work and you had helped to pay family expenses and our school fees. So you are a good brother, don’t forget.

To my mum, we will always ask you a lot of questions like where is my thing, what did you cooked tonight? Etc.. Let me ask you some more questions, are you happy tonight? Are you pleased with this daughter in law? Thank you for everything, I know it is not easy for you and Dad to take care of 5 children. No words can explain the gratitude I have for you and Dad.

My dad have a funny sense of humour like  “earn $0.50, save $1”. It’s his special way of telling us to save money for rainy day. Dad, you have worked so hard. Take care of your health. And smile more often, you look very handsome when you smile. I have learnt to be hardworking and down to earth from you. Dad and Mum, this is the first time i said it and I love you.

Dear, thank you for being with me through so many years. I have said my vows to you, and I am a man of my word. I love you forever. Looking forward to our new chapter together

Lastly, I thank God for everything that I have, including this wife who is the only one who can open me up. Thank you God for guiding me in everything I do, and I do really feel blessed to have so many good people in my life.

Once again, thank you for your well wishes and we hope you will stay to the end of dinner.
